For years, I believed that everything around me needed to change-people, situations, circumstances-before my life could feel better. I didn’t realize that the real work had to start within me. The Dale Carnegie journey didn’t just teach me how to speak confidently; it helped me see myself clearly, take responsibility for my reactions, and slowly become a better version of who I already was.

The Dale Carnegie course slowly made me pause, reflect, and look inward. What started as a public speaking course turned into a journey of self-awareness, confidence, and personal growth. This wasn’t just about learning how to speak better-it was about meeting myself honestly.

Living on Autopilot: Blame, Reactions, and Lost Power

For most of our lives, we blame everything around us-people, circumstances, the environment, even God-whenever we face difficulties. If someone behaves poorly, a project doesn’t go as planned, our health declines, or personal and mental struggles arise, we instinctively point fingers outward. We try to change others, find faults everywhere else, and rarely look inward.

For many years, I was in the same boat. When situations became difficult, I blamed others. When I was angry, it was always someone else’s fault. When I started gaining weight, I told myself it was because external situations were creating stress in my life. If someone misbehaved, they were the problem and they needed to change. Looking back, I realize how often I gave away my power without even noticing.

Choosing Transformation as an Intention

Every New Year, I choose a word to anchor my intentions and resolutions. For 2025, that word was transformation. I wanted to transform physically, mentally, and professionally. To support that vision, I went on a meditation retreat, a body detox retreat, and enrolled in the Dale Carnegie course. Each experience focused on a different area of my life-and together, they transformed me in ways I never expected. The results were phenomenal, and I’m incredibly proud of myself.

In this blog, I want to share my experience with the most recent milestone-successfully graduating from the Dale Carnegie course last month.

Entering the Dale Carnegie Journey

Dale Carnegie is a globally recognized training program designed to build confidence, leadership, and effective communication. It emphasizes practical skills such as public speaking, relationship-building, and influencing others with empathy and clarity.

What I didn’t realize when I signed up was how deeply personal the journey would be.

My brother completed this course a few years ago and encouraged me to sign up in the fall of 2025. I was hesitant but also determined to step out of my comfort zone and face myself honestly. On September 16, 2025, I attended my first class. I remember feeling nervous, lost, and extremely shy among 20 unfamiliar faces.

Discomfort as the first Teacher

As we began introducing ourselves, every single person-including me-spoke with a shaky voice and low confidence. What followed surprised us all. That session turned into an introduction improvement workshop. We learned how to introduce ourselves with confidence-our body language, posture, tone, and presence. The instructors pushed us into activities that felt awkward and uncomfortable.

I remember questioning myself: Why did I sign up? Why are they making us do these weird exercises?

Little did I know, this discomfort was exactly what I needed to break free from the comfort zone I had been living in for years.

The Principle that Changed Everything

At the beginning, I seriously considered withdrawing from the course. But then we were introduced to the first set of Human Relations Principles, and one line immediately caught my attention:

“Don’t condemn, complain, or criticize.”

That single principle forced me to pause and reflect. From the moment I woke up to the end of my day, I realized how often I did all three-sometimes unconsciously.

That realization made me decide to take the course seriously and give it my best effort, not just to become a better speaker, but to become a better human being.

Learning Through Stories, Vulnerability, and Reflection

In every session, I shared my stories, experiences, and lessons. I also listened to deeply inspiring stories from my batchmates. Watching others be vulnerable, honest, and brave motivated me to keep showing up-even on days I didn’t feel like it.

One session, in particular, stands out. I almost skipped it because I was having a rough day. I was self-sabotaging, stuck in negative thoughts, and feeling incredibly small. But I pushed myself to attend.

That day’s topic was appreciation.

We were asked to share what we genuinely appreciated about one another-what we had noticed about each person’s growth and journey. Hearing my batchmates speak about my strengths, progress, and accomplishments reminded me of everything I had temporarily forgotten about myself.

It was a powerful reminder of how quickly we get trapped in our own minds and forget to acknowledge how far we’ve come.

What This Course Truly Gave Me

This course didn’t just give me professional frameworks and communication tools-it transformed me personally. It reshaped my mindset, strengthened my confidence, and taught me how to continuously improve without being harsh on myself. Most importantly, it gave me a toolbox filled with practical frameworks, human principles, Self-awareness techniques, and communication strategies. Tools I can now use to navigate any situation-personal or professional. Instead of reacting emotionally or blaming externally, I now have structured ways to pause, reflect, and respond with clarity and intention.

I also had the privilege of meeting incredible instructors, coaches, and classmates who shared wisdom, encouragement, and life lessons that I’ll carry forward. I genuinely recommend this course to anyone who wants to step out of their comfort zone, become a confident speaker, build self-belief, and most importantly, grow as a person.

My Biggest Takeaway

My biggest takeaway from this experience is simple, yet profound:
When we change ourselves-everything else begins to align.

This 12-week journey showed me that growth isn’t about perfection-it’s about awareness, responsibility, and consistent inner work.

Gratitude

I want to end with heartfelt gratitude to our instructor, Lindsay, who guided us with grace, patience, and unwavering belief. She helped us explore the best versions of ourselves and supported us every step of the way.

This is not just a public speaking course.

It is a transformation journey-one that helps you uncover parts of yourself you didn’t even know existed.
